Tato norma je jednou z řady norem týkajících se ergonomického navrhování řídicích center. Stanovuje ergonomické požadavky, doporučení a metodické pokyny pro uspořádání velínu. Zahrnuje požadavky, doporučení a pokyny pro uspořádání velínů, pracovních soustav, použití zobrazovacích displejů umístěných mimo pracovní soustavu i pro údržbu velínů. Norma zahrnuje všechny druhy řídicích center, včetně těch, která jsou využívána ve zpracovatelském průmyslu a je použitelná i pro dopravní a dispečerské systémy používané v záchranných službách. Je určena především pro stacionární řídicí centra, avšak její zásady mohou být v řadě případů využitelné i pro mobilní centra, jaká jsou například v lodní či v letecké dopravě.
