Norma specifikuje metody, které lze použít ke stanovení korozní rychlosti pomocí standardních vzorků. Hodnoty získané z měření (korozní rychlosti po prvním roce expozice) se použijí jako klasifikační kritéria pro určení korozní agresivity atmosféry podle ČSN EN ISO 9223. Lze je použít i pro informativní vyhodnocení korozní agresivity atmosféry mimo rámec ČSN EN ISO 9223. Standardní vzorky jsou ploché destičky čtyř standardních konstrukčních materiálů: hliníku, mědi, oceli a zinku. Tato metoda představuje ekonomický způsob určení korozní agresivity, zahrnující všechny místní vlivy prostředí
