Norma ČSN ISO 13473-3 specifikuje požadavky na profilometry používané ve stavitelství vozovek, aby byla zaručena smysluplnost a přesnost měření popisů mikro, makro a megatextury povrchů vozovek silnic a letišť. Též obsahuje návod pro klasifikaci profilometrů s ohledem na jejich užití a celkovou přesnost. Profilometry mohou být jakéhokoli druhu činnosti. Předmět této části ISO 13473 neobsahuje analýzu profilů strojově obrobených povrchů. Z předmětu normy je též vyjmuta analýza profilů nerovnosti vozovek.
