Norma obsahuje ISO 2972. Tato mezinárodní norma upřesňuje běžnou řadu symbolů pro označení a zobrazování řídících funkcí číslicově řízených (NC) obráběcích strojů. Uvedené symboly jsou specifické pro NC aplikace. Funkce konvenčních obráběcích strojů jakéhokoliv použitelného systému je třeba také označovat, vhodné symboly musí být zvoleny v souladu s ISO/R 369. V tabulce je uvedeno 70 symbolů. ČSN ISO 2972 (20 0032) byla vydána v dubnu 1993. Nahradila ON 20 0032 z 20.9.1984
