Osobitné požiadavky tejto kapitoly platia pre výber a stavbu svietidiel a svetelných inštalácií, ktoré majú byť súčasťou pevnej inštalácie. Doplňujúce požiadavky na špecifické typy svetelných inštalácií sú uvedené v: IEC 60364-7-702 pre inštalácie na kúpaliskách a fontánach; IEC 60364-7-711 pre inštalácie na výstavách, prehliadkach a v stánkoch; IEC 60364-7-713 pre elektrické inštalácie v nábytku; IEC 60364-7-714 pre vonkajšie svetelné inštalácie; IEC 60364-7-715 pre svetelné inštalácie malého napätia. Požiadavky tejto kapitoly neplatia pre: vysokonapäťové svetelné značky napájané z nízkeho napätia (nazývané neónové trubice); inštalácie svetelných značiek a výbojkových trubíc pracujúce pri menovitom výstupnom napätí naprázdno prevyšujúcom 1 kV, ale neprevyšujúcom 10 kV; dočasné slávnostné osvetlenie.
