Tato mezinárodní norma specifikuje profily, kombinace středních průměrů, základní rozměry, tolerance, meze velikostí a značky pro miniaturní závity ISO se jmenovitým průměrem od 0,3 mm do 1,4 mm. Tyto závity se používají v hodinářství, optických přístrojích, elektrických měřidlech a měřicích nástrojích. Profily a systém tolerování ISO miniaturních závitů (S) se liší od profilů a tolerování ISO všeobecně používaných metrických závitů (M). U závitů se jmenovitým průměrem od 1 mm do 1,4 mm se konstruktéři musí rozhodnout, zda budou používat ISO všeobecně používané metrické závity (M) nebo ISO miniaturní závity (S).
